Like live events, virtual events have defined purposes and goals, aiming to deliver a memorable experience to participants. The unique aspect of virtual events lies in the participant engagement that is tied to a specific moment, distinguishing them from other online marketing and communication interactions. The building blocks of virtual events differ from those of live ones, yet the core and focus remains the same – virtual or live, events are well designed encounters among groups of people. The challenge in creating a successfull event is not in finding the coolest technical platform or the wittiest game gadget, but rather in creating a strong participant experience – considering what the participant sees, thinks, and feels. Participant experience is influenced by multiple factors, including even the smallest details encountered on their virtual event journey. For us, the core of a successfull virtual event lies in designing a successful participant journey. The benefits of virtual events over live ones include reachability, availability, and accessibility combined with the feeling of “being alone, yet still together”. However, this feeling of togetherness is not achieved automatically – in addition to a smooth technical platform, it requires a bit of courage and a creative mindset.
